Managed Shipment Lifecycles
Table of Contents
Every shipment has a lifecycle that is detailed in the Shippabo platform. This ensures visibility and predictability by allowing users to know where in the shipping process a shipment is.
In short, the lifecycles of a shipment are as follows:
- Planning
- Request
- Proposal
- Expired
- Pending
- Booked
- Transiting
- Arriving
- Arriving Inland
- Delivered
- Completed
For those interested, this guide provides a little more detail on each step of the lifecycle.
Lifecycle indicators can be found in individual shipments in the “Overview” page, beneath the Shipment Timeline.
If a shipment is cancelled at any point during the shipping process, it will be marked as Cancelled.
Shipment Lifecycle: Planning
Shipments in the Planning phase of the lifecycle will have a shipment "file" created within the platform.
This is where a shipment will have an ID number assigned to it.
Full container shipments will end with a C
LCL / loose freight shipments will end with a P
Air shipments will end with an A
Shipment Lifecycle: Request
When a shipment moves into the Request phase, that means our Operations Team is working with the Shippabo origin team to find the best possible option based on POL / POD and the cargo-ready date.
Shipment Lifecycle: Proposal
When a shipment is moved into Proposal that means our origin team has found a viable rate along with tentative sailing dates.
When your shipment has moved into this phase, a quote will be sent to you for your review and approval.
Please note that quotes are valid for until the end of the current GRI period. If a quote is not approved within that timeframe the shipment is moved into the Expired phase.
Shipment Lifecycle: Pending
Your shipments will move into the Pending phase after you've accepted a quote.
Once accepted, our origin team will confirm space and work on securing a shipping order and booking.
Shipment Lifecycle: Booked
Once a shipment is Booked, that means that a shipping order has been confirmed and a carrier has been booked.
Sailing dates can be found in the shipment's history within the Shippabo platform, as well as on the Shipments page.
Shipment Lifecycle: Transiting
Once a shipment has departed it will enter into the following lifecycles:
- Transiting indicates the shipment has departed.
- Arriving indicates a shipment's ETA has occurred.
- Arriving Inland is for shipments that have rail transit and the ETA to the rail location has occurred.
Shipment Lifecycle: Delivered
Once delivery of a shipment has been confirmed it will be marked as Delivered.
Shipment Lifecycle: Completed
After a shipment is delivered and the invoice is sent out, the shipment will be marked as Completed.
